Nelson Angelo Piquet, the son of world champion - Nelson Piquet Souto Maior, is Renault's third driver right now.

Though he got 2nd place in GP2 last year, behind Hamilton. but he had to think about all the things of the racing team, while Hamilton was just chiseling in the car and think about the match.

so i think Nelson is much mature than Lewis, at least above the work of the team.

now, heikki was not doing well. according to Briatore's temper, it's likely that he will let Nelson take the place of heikki...

birth: JULY 25, 1985
nickname: Nelsinho
heighth: 176cm
weighth: 70kg

Actually, there's a topic made for these test drivers already. I don't think Piquet jr. will be taking Heikki's place anytime soon. Keke Rosberg was asked about if Flavio is going to be firing Heikki, and he said that "even if F1 is a quickly changing sport, it's not that quick." As long Renault is as poor car it is now, and if Heikki keeps achieving points in the future also, I don't see any chance he would be replaced.

I don't know enough about Nelson himself that I should be saying my opinions Smile

Nelson\'s parents separated soon after he was born and he lived in Monaco with his Dutch mother until he was eight years old when he moved to live in Brazil with his father. "They kind of swapped me. My mother wanted me to get to know my father, she wanted me to know Brazil and the language, and she realised life in Brazil would be better for a child." [1] He has two sisters, Kelly and Julia, and four brothers, Geraldo, Laszlo, Pedro and Marco.

Australian GP was a failure for Heikki but you can't judge him just from one race. And Renault's situation won't change any better just by changing drivers since the car is having some serious problems currently.

Nelson Piquet jr is agreat driver. I´m from Brazil and I´m his fan since 2004. I can say he is a good driver. If he gets in F1, he will sure make a great race. Maybe not the best, because he is new, but he will.

He's only 22, let him test for a while! I think many drivers are thrown into F1 too early, they need to be older, more mature in all aspects of their lives.
I don't know much of his driving or him, but young drivers only become overrated because they perform well in the under series and then get into F1 (mainly into struggling teams) where they cannot show their talent and often do not have the experience/presence to help build a car/team.
If the media did not prophacise about the meteoric rise these drivers are 'meant' to have then they would not be overrated. Let them do their thing and if they are the next MS then so be it, if not oh well.
Enough ranting from me!

He was impressive in the 1st race of the A1GP.

But to be honest, I though he was concentrating oin his haircut for the rest of the races Wink

Boy does he love his hair, lol.

I think if the didn't have the lineage (Snr) , he wouldn't be where he is now.

I hope he proves me wrong though.

Can't give my opinion about his driving skills because i've never seen him race. I think he should stay a year like a test driver so that he can gain some experience about F1. I don't think he'll take Heikki's place he's most likely to take Fisico's one.

I agree with you bunkstar. I think Nelson has to be a test driver for a while. I´ve seen him racing a lot and he is a good driver, but he doesn´t have experience on F1. But I think that´s not gonna happen. Briatori will want him sooner for sure.

He's a really nice guy with lots of potential! I was lucky to meet him at the Silverstone Test last September and he was very nice and stopped for photos and autographs.

He was quicker than Heikki at that test IIRC and he gave Hamilton a good run for his money in GP2. I'd like to see him maybe get to have a race or 2 at the end of this year, replacing Fisi or Heikki.
