From what I read during the off season, it's a 'power' within the team higher than Flav that are keeping him in the team.

Don't ask me where I read it or who it is as I don't remember Confused Sorry

in the Q2 you are running with low fuel loads Piquet should attempt to get into Q2 and go a for a quick time.he fail to do so. Alonso has been only 5-9 Kgs lighter at best, in the first two races this is after getting into Q2 and in the last last getting into Q3.

and why he was kept for another season is mainly because Grosjean is no better in testing than piquet is. There is no point in getting another rookie hoping to experiment though. The same reason why bruno never got Honda drive and rubens got it. Experience and continuity is what the team needs, Piquet offered continuity, but unfortunately Experience was not a things they could gain from piquet.

i think Piquet needs to perform better in qualifying and then he can get a flexible strategy, if he starts way down there is no point to go a short stint when you are starting at the back of the grid given the fact that the renault is not amongst the quickest cars to make use of such a aggressive strategy. Confused

I don’t think experience is the only reason of keeping Nelson in the team for another year, if they wanna change him, they can bring Sato ... etc. (more experience)! The heavy strategy didn’t help him in both previous races due to the early call of the SC and the changeable weather in Malaysia. My disagreement with the heavy start is that the extra fuel load will affect on the tyres with time so no huge advantage will be gain from it. I just remember his 2 seasons in GP2 and I think he has the talent either he succeed in F1 or not.

But Sato don't have enough sponsors behind him unlike Piquet.

About the strategy... Again... If Piquet do such a bad qualifyings, the team can only try a heavy strategy with HARD tyres in the beggining, then for instance making a short stint with the soft ones (the ones that are crap) and then a final stint with hard tyres again. That's what all teams do, not only Renault.

Take Williams for instance where you have two drivers quite close in quality. Nakajima despite being as quick as Rosberg as it has been proven taking the times session from 2008 and 2009, the japanese guy usually have awful qualifyings so the team can only try a heavy strategy. In Australia it was successful so he was going 5th until he made that mistake of course.

The SC and the weather has nothing to do with biases towards Alonso, or something you can blame to Renault. He could have been affected by that perfectly well no matter the strategy the had chosen. SC and Weather is a lottery.

As you've been told, Alonso didn't have such a different fuel loads than Piquet in addition.

About GP2... Kovalainen despite of doing nice in previous categories, is not good in F1. This year he failed to make a single lap, by his own fault. And last year, he was beat by cars much much worse than the McLaren he had. See where he finished last year... 7th with the best car :S Despite of the bias of McLaren, that's too much difference. Almost 50 points of difference with Hamilton :S

My point is that F1 is F1 and GP2 is GP2. Most of drivers from the current grid did nice in GP2, that's why they are here. But then the competition gets harder since in F1 you find the best of the best. And there is where many fail.

Piquet is there because of his surname and sponsors. Other drivers did much better in GP2 and WOrld Series just like Adrián Vallés (quicker than Rosberg when given the chance, but of course since his father is not famous...) but they didn't got a chance. If he's in Renault it is sadly because of sponsors.

I think this post is different and I will be glad to discuss it with you.
I know the concept of heavy/light fuel strategy very well.
In Malaysia most drivers - as I remember - started with soft tyres, yes there are several reasons such as the track is different than that in Australia and soft can give better performance so it might a good option, maybe the teams expecting the rain at any moment after the start of the race - we all remember the several team radio talking about the rain would come soon…etc- so they might use the soft tyres to get some advantage before the rain.
I don’t believe of that Alonso himself has any direct effect on Nelson (the issue which made you angry as I sew Very Happy ), I didn’t say that.
I believe - as some others do - that Renault is working for Alonso as a favorable driver and the 2nd seat in the team get less luck either it was taken by NPJ or any other driver. Otherwise why you think Fisichella left to Force India!
http://www.gridcrasher.com/index.php/2008/10/15/you-are-flavio-briatore-do-you-retain-nelson-piquet
and this is how Flavio Briatore feels towards Nelson Piquet this year:-
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090303091159.shtml
Sponsors maybe, other issues I’m not surprised!
Kova is different story a little bit, it is true he admitted with his wrong choices last year, but I have read this for him:-
http://eurosport.yahoo.com/03122008/58/heikki-wants-equality-hamilton.html
I was sad when I saw the way Hamilton passed him in German GP last year.
Yes F1 is F1, but for several reasons a lot of talented drivers in F1 are driving limited incompatible cars! While they were done good job in GP2 and other series before.
Thanks for the diffuser to see Button flying this year!

Statement of Nelson Piquet and ING Renault F1 Team

The ING Renault F1 Team would like to deny the negative comments attributed to Nelson Piquet by the Italian and Spanish press, who were referring to an article published in the UK edition of F1 Racing magazine.

The comments are completely distorted as a result of an extremely poor translation from English and were reported out of context as Nelson responded in a light-hearted manner to irreverent questions submitted by the magazine’s fans.

Nelson Piquet said: “I’m amazed how my words have been completely misrepresented by the press. I was trying to be funny and amusing to stay in tune with the cheeky questions I was asked. It’s a pity that I have to find myself clarifying what I said. I’m a very happy member of the ING Renault F1 Team and I have an excellent relationship with everybody, including Fernando and Flavio. I’ve never had any reason to believe that I was treated in an unfair way and I have no doubt about the team’s support. I’m confident that we will have a good year together and I’m looking forward to the upcoming races with the sole focus of doing the best job I can for the team.”

Unfortunately I don't have a working scanner, but he talks about Flavio being "really harsh" & has a bit of a whinge about Alonso getting all the testing time etc.

I'll try to scan it later. I can see how it's easily interpreted like him having a go at Renault/Flavio/Alonso, but I didn't get that feeling at all reading it. I think the "harshest", if you want to call it that, was when he said Alonso claimed all the testing time on track, so he didn't get any. And you can't say that's not true and it's no harsher than any of the drivers at the moment saying that their teams aren't developing their cars fast enough. I think it's just the press making more out of this than what's actually going on. What else is new.

doesn't anyone think it's really mean , that nelson's boss watever his name is salvatore something, walked away during race because alonso was out and Nelson was not making any progress from the back. It is rumoured to be said that Nelson Piquet will not be doing anymore races if he doesn't improve over next few races, I think it's been a slow and gradual process for him, I mean cmon with such a adorable face and fantastic physique he has most risk taking if he injures hiself, personally I feel that he should stay with renault or let red bull give him a chance. Poor PIquet ........

You said it, icegirljenni. Why should you keep quiet, Nelson? Uh, because he's your freaking boss, you idiot. You have one of the most coveted twenty racing seats in the world - or you did, until now, I suspect. It's one thing to complain about your boss loudly to your friends, and quietly to your coworkers - it's another thing to slag him directly to the media. Oy.
